JIM PEREZ-WOOD

A self-taught potter, I began to experiment with clay after retiring from a career in advertising and packaging design. I find my inspiration in classical pottery forms and the colors of the Southwest. In between creating new pieces, I sell my work and teach wheel throwing in Surprise, Arizona.

STONEWARE

Throwing with stoneware is my go-to clay technique, presenting endless possibilities for me to design with shape, color and texture.

ANCIENT-INSPIRED STONEWARE

The classic forms and decorative surfaces of ancient pottery inspire me. Millennium-aged vessels were crafted without electricity to spin wheels or heat kilns to hold liquids and record history. The simple weathered look of these pieces pays homage to master craftsmen.

RAKU

The dazzling metallic finishes, stunning effects and flashes of color against deep, rich blacks captured by fire fuel my creative ambition. Raku connects me to pottery in a raw, natural way that allows me to be in the moment as colors and textures come to life.

OBVARA

The limited colors and random results in this technique push my creativity. It's an exciting challenge to design using only texture and pattern without the application of glazes.
